The Istanbul Disaster Prevention & Education (DPA) Center CISTERN is designed as a monolith structure. The immediate environment is not exactly inspiring, unlike Istanbul itself. The building is solely inspired by its content: an exhibition and education center about disasters, like fires or earthquakes. This monolith structure is inspired by water.

The biggest disaster in terms of threat is water. Not the water as in a flood or a tsunami, how devastating they may be. But the worldwide pollution of water. We can outlive tsunamis, earthquakes, fires. We cannot outlive the deprivation of water, not for one day. This is taking place in these modern times. Like in the cisterns, in this design water is the main feature. Like the beautiful cistern in Istanbul itself, build for the storage of water. The monolith structure is like a cistern, but this time not underground, but above. Its shape is like drop of water, like a raindrop on the face of the earth.
